JAKARTA (yosefardi) – The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) is expected to sink three foreign illegal fishing boats in Anambas Sea, Kepulauan Riau, on Friday (Dec. 5), accordance to an order from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Spokesperson of Navy First Admiral Manahan Simorangkir told Kompas.com that Navy has made the preparation since this morning.
Manahan said that three Vietnamese boats were earlier captured for fishing illegally in Indonesian waters.
As reported earlier, President Jokowi ordered Navy to sink foreign fishing boats captured in Indonesian waters.
Jokowi said it is a firm order to show that Indonesia is now serious in combating illegal fishing. “Save the crew then sink their boats. Sink 10 to 20 illegal boats, then it would make them think,” Jokowi repeatedly said. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
