JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Romahurmuziy aka Romy finally answered the call, for questioning, from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday (Dec. 3) related to the forest area conversion bribery scandal implicating Riau Governor and Golkar Party key leader Annas Maamun.

KPK’s Head of News & Information Priharsa Nugraha explained that KPK will question Romy as a witness for a businessman Gulat Medali Emas Manurung, another suspect in the case.

Priharsa said Romy will be questioned in his capacity as former Head of the 2009-2014 House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI (overseeing forestry, food, marine, and fishery).

As reported earlier, Romy failed to answer KPK’s first call for questioning on Nov. 18 due to his hectic schedule as a lawmaker at DPR.

Gulat Manurung and Annas Maamun were caught red handed by KPK’s investigators in a bribery transaction in Cibubur, East Jakarta, on Sep. 25. KPK has seized Rp500 million and Sin$156,000 cash money from the transaction.

In order to reveal the case, KPK has examined several figures as witnesses in the case, including former Minister of Forestry Zulkifli Hasan. Zulkifli, a politician from the Hatta Rajasa’s National Mandate Party (PAN), now serves as Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
