JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Human Rights’ activists have urged the government to revoke its decision on giving parole warrant to Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto, a murder convict of the assassination of human rights campaigner Munir Said Thalib.
In a press briefing on Sunday (Nov. 30), Putri Kanesia from the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) said Kontras urged President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to revoke parole on Pollycarpus immediately.
Putri, moreover, urged casino the law enforcers and other related institutions to review the legal process of Munir case in order to reveal the real masterminds in the case.
Minister of Law & Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, meanwhile, explained that the issuance of parole warrant to Pollycarpus is already accordance to the procedure.
Pollycarpus has served two thirds of his sentence. He had been sentenced to 20 years in jail, but later the Supreme Court reduced his jail term into 14 years.
According to the Correctional Law No. 12/1995 and Law Ministry Regulation No. M.01.PK.04-10/2007, a parole is the rights of every convict.
Article 14 Paragraph 1 of the Law No. 12/1995 and Article 6 of the Law Ministry Regulation No. M.01.PK.04-10/2007 reads that every convict has a rights to get parole if he/she has already served two-thirds of his/her prison term. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
