JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – National media outlets reported that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has appointed Nusron Wahid, a politician from Golkar Party, as new Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI).

However, the State Palace has not confirmed yet the reports so far.

Talking to the press on Friday (Nov. 21), Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto only stated that President Jokowi has already had the name of the new BNP2TKI Head in his hand. But Andi was reluctant to disclose the name.

According to Andi, the new BNP2TKI Head will be sworn in next week at the State Palace, Jakarta, along with the inauguration of the new Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

If confirmed, Nusron Wahid will replace Gatot Abdullah Mansyur, who has served for eight months. Gatot was appointed by former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono replacing Jumhur HIdayat in March 2014.

Nusron Wahid is currently a Golkar Party lawmaker at the House of Representatives (DPR). He also serves as Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU)’s youth wings GP Ansor.

During the 2014 presidential election, Nusron was a member of Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla’s campaign team. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
