JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Acting Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is to sent a letter on Tuesday (Nov. 11) to Minister of Law & Human Rights proposing a bid to disband the hardline Islamic group Islam Defenders Front (FPI) to the State prosecutor.

Ahok, in his letter published since Monday, mentioned that accordance to Article 70 Paragraph 1 of the Mass Organization Law No. 17/2013, the disbandment’s proposal on a mass organization can be proposed by the State prosecutor to the State District Court over the request from the Minister
of Law & Human Rights.

Ahok said FPI’s protests against the 1945 Constitution which  are viewed as offensive, intolerance, and spreads hatred. Ahok also said FPI’s protest has disturbed the people and interfered the administration.

Ahok, a Christian of Chinese descent, has become a target of relentless protests from FPI. As reported earlier, thousands of FPI members staged a rally on Monday as a form of rejection to the upcoming inauguration of Ahok as new Jakarta Governor. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
