JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo hopes the Great Indonesia coalition and the Red-and-White coalition, the two warring factions in the House of Representatives (DPR), to unite and find a win-win solution instead of extending their conflicts.
DPR should opt to work effectively, Jokowi said.
Talking to the press at the State Palace on Friday (Oct. 31), the President said it would be a good lesson for people if the two warring factions could unite.
Newly-appointed Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto earlier explained that the President has so far not yet considered the request from the Great Indonesia coalition (KIH) to issue a government regulation in lieu of law to cancel the Legislative Institution Law No. 17/2014 (also known as the MD3 Law).
Andi said the Presidential office has not yet received any official letter from the KIH about the request.
As reported earlier, the DPR continues to be deeply divided after the KIH stepped up their fight for fair representation by appointing their own version of the DPR leadership. In Friday (October 31), the KIH held their own version of the House plenary session.
The Red-and-White coalition (the KMP), meanwhile, earlier has successfully taken control of the leadership of the DPR’s working commissions and parliamentary bodies altogether known as the AKD (Alat Kelengkapan Dewan). The KMP controls the AKD’s leadership after conducting an election without the attendance of the KIH.(haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
