JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The National Congress (Muktamar) of the United Development Party held in Surabaya, East Java, has on Thursday (Oct. 16) appointed and inaugurated PPP Secretary General Romahurmuziy as its new party chairman, Kompas.com reported.
Romahurmuziy or known as Romi was appointed by acclamation from all of PPP’s cadres and leaders attended the congress.
PPP current Chairman Suryadharma Ali, however, didn’t attend the Surabaya congress. Instead, Suryadharma initially wants to hold another party’s congress in Jakarta.
In a related progress, the Chief of PPP’s Sharia Board Maimoen Zubair, earlier on Wednesday, has stated that the congress organized by Suryadharma in Jakarta and Romahurmuziy in Surabaya are invalid.
Maimoen Zubair, popularly known as Mbah Moen, then said the party’s Sharia Board will hold a party’s congress in Oct. 19 as an effort to resolve the internal conflict within the party and to reconcile the two warring factions of Suryadharma and Romahurmuziy. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
