JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The prosecutor team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), in a trial on Monday (Sep. 29), demanded six years jail sentence to Biak Numfor Regent Yesaya Sombuk for allegation of committing corruption related to the development project of the Biak Sea Wall in Biak Numfor, Papua.
KPK’s prosecutor team also demanded panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court to order the graft defendant to pay Rp250 million in fine or serving five months additional jail term.
According to KPK’s prosecutor, Yesaya has been proven guilty for receiving bribe money worth Sin$100,000 in two installments from a businessman, Teddy Renyut, related to the development project of the Biak Sea Wall.
KPK has charged Yesaya with Article 12 letter a of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 64 Paragraph 1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP).
As reported earlier, KPK’s investigators have caught red-handed Yesaya and Teddy in a bribery transaction at the Acacia Hotel, Jakarta. In the operation, the KPK has seized Sin$37,000 cash money.
Yesaya Sombuk has been sworn in as Biak Numfor Regent for the period of 2014-2019. He entered the local election with support of PKPB, PNI Marhaenisme, Republikan, Pelopor and PPP. He beat his strongest contender Yotam Wakum, who was supported by PDIP, PAN and PDK. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
