JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Supreme Court has granted the appeal filed by the KPK’s prosecutor team against former PKS Chairman Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq and dropped 18 years term in jail to former Head of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I, heavier that 16 years dropped by the Jakarta Corruption Court.
The court also decided to revoke Luthfi’s political rights to be elected for public position in the country.
Supreme Judge Artidjo Alkostar, as quoted by Kompas on Tuesday (September 16), explained that the court concluded Luthfi’s case as a serious crime of political corruption.
Previously, the Jakarta Corruption Court had sentenced Luthfi to 16 years in prison after proven guilty in committing corruption in a graft and money laundering cases related to the beef import quota under the Agriculture Ministry. The court also ordered Luthfi to pay Rp1 billion in fine or serving additional 12 months jail sentence.
The Jakarta High Court, later, confirmed the lower court’s verdict but reduced his substitution punishment of fine from 12 months to 6 months in jail. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
