JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Pressure continues to mount on the government as the public urge the government to order the National Police and the Attorney General Office (AGO) to reopening the investigation into the case of the assassination of human rights campaigner Munir Said Thalib.
The further investigation needs to find the real mastermind of the murder.
Munir’s wife Suciwati has on Sunday (September 7), the day after 10 years of Munir’s murder in 2004, launched an online petition through change.org. She asked the people for signing the petition to push the current government as well as the next government to find the real mastermind of Munir’s murder.
For your information, at the time of writing, about 8,546 people have signed the petition.
In a different place, similar pressures also came abroad from US Foreign Minister John Kerry, through a written statement released on Saturday.
Earlier on Thursday, a number of activists from several human rights groups have also urged the government to reopening Munir case in the 364th Kamisan rally in front of the Presidential Palace.
Two suspects in the case had been brought to the court trial. They are Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto and Maj. Gen. (ret) Muchdi Purwopranjono. Pollycarpus had been sentenced to 20 years in jail, but later the Supreme Court reduced his jail term into 14 years.
Muchdi, meanwhile, was walking free after the South Jakarta District Court released him from all charges. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
