JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Transition Team of President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has set a reform plan to put the inspectorate general offices under the presidential office on hope this general offices could maximize their roles and authorities in supervising the ministries and curbing the corruption practices at the ministries.

Currently, the inspectorate general offices are put under the ministry offices so their roles of supervising are sometimes scaled down by the ministers. The inspectorate general offices also lacked capacity in addressing the corruption issues at the ministries.

Akbar Faizal, the Deputy of Jokowi’s Transition Team, as quoted by Tempo, explained that the team has prepared several options for the reform plan on the inspectorate general offices, including to merge into the presidential office, meaning each inspectorate general office will report their responsibility directly to the president.

Zulkarnaen, the Deputy of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), also revealed that KPK had previously proposed this kind of reform plan. He then suggested Jokowi to deeply discuss the plan for getting the best formula for the reform.

Zulkarnaen supports the idea of directing the responsibility, budget, and recruitment of the inspectorate general offices to the president. But he suggested the inspectorate general offices to remain at the ministries. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
