JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Abraham Samad pointed the important of the establishment of the death penalty as a punishment for corruption crimes, Kompas.com reported.
Talking in the discussion on Wednesday (August 27), Abraham shared his beliefs that the death penalty will give a deterrent effect in order to curb corruption practices in the country.
It is not the first time for Abraham on campaigning the establishment of the death penalty for corruptors.
Previously, Abraham also expressed his agreement to drop the death sentence on Akil Mochtar, a graft convict and the disgraced former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court.
Three months ago, he had also campaigned the important of the death penalty to corruptors.
So far the death penalty is regulated in the Anti Corruption Law. However, according to article 2 paragraph 2 of the law, the death penalty can be only imposed for corruption practices in certain conditions such as the country is in danger, disaster, and in economic and monetary crisis.
The death penalty can be also imposed to corruptors with accumulated corruption acts. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
