JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and vice governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama had Tuesday (August 26) morning conducted a meeting with state-owned train company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Ignatius Jonan.

The meeting was to discuss the construction of the long-delayed Jakarta Airport railway project.

However, the meeting has triggered speculation that Jonan will be appointed as one of cabinet members of President-elect Jokowi.

But Jonan tried to play down the speculation by saying the meeting only focused to discuss the co-operation between PT KAI and the Jakarta administration to kick off the implementation of the long-delayed Airport railway project in the city.

As reported earlier, Jonan’s name has been widely mentioned as potential candidate for either becoming the next Minister of Transportation or the next Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE’s).

The original idea of the Jakarta Airport railway system connecting the city center of Jakarta to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport emerged since 1980’s. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
