JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Andi Widjajanto, the Deputy at President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s Transition office, firmly said there will be no impunity for the Transition office’s adviser AM Hendropriyono, should there be a legal process on the cases human rights abuses in the past linked to the retired four-star general, Tempo reported.
Jokowi, meanwhile, said he can accept public resistance on Hendropriyono’s position at his Transition office. Jokowi argued that he needs Hendropriyono in his office because of his experiences on intelligence and security issues.
As reported earlier, human right activists and the families of human rights victims have launched criticism against Jokowi’s decision on appointing Hendropriyono as one of advisers at the Transition office.
Most of said criticisms focus on the controversies surrounding unresolved human rights abuses in the past linked to the former Chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), especially in the murder of human rights campaigner Munir Said Thalib in 2004 and the killings in Talangsari village (Lampung) in 1989.
During the presidential campaign, Hendropriyono was also member of the Steering Committee of Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla’s campaign team. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
