JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo draws criticism for appointing Abdullah Makhmud Hendropriyono aka AM Hendropriyono as one of advisers at his newly Transition Team.

Most of said criticisms focus on the controversies surrounding unresolved human rights abuses in the past linked to the retired four-star general, especially in the murder of human rights campaigner Munir Said Thalib in 2004 and the killings in Talangsari village (Lampung) in 1989.

Munir’s wife Suciwati, Kontras’ Coordinator Haris Azhar, and Widji Tukul’s daughter Fitri Nganthi Wani are among those who launched critics to Jokowi.

Jokowi, meanwhile, answered the critics by saying that all the rumors related to Hendropriyono aren’t legally clear. The Jakarta Governor said that they must therefore be proven first in the court of law.

The former Chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) has just been appointed as adviser of Jokowi’s Transition Team along side with Gen. (ret) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Achmad Hasyim Muzadi, and Ahmad Syafi’i Maarif.

During the presidential campaign, Hendropriyono was also member of the Steering Committee of Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla’s campaign team. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
