JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo revealed that the capital city Jakarta and other cities throughout the country are ready to hold the Asian Games in 2018, the most prestigious multi-sports event held every four years.
Jokowi said Indonesia will get such an honour to host the Asian Games. He delivered this statement in a meeting with Wei Jizhong, the Vice Chairman and as well as the Adviser of Asian Olympic Council (OCA) at the Jakarta’s city hall on Thursday (August 7).
Also attended the meeting were Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin, and Chairman of Indonesia’s Olympic Committee Rita Subowo.
Jakarta (Indonesia) has been appointed as the host of the XVIII Asian Games in 2018 following the withdrawal of Hanoi (Vietnam) due to financial problem.
This t will become the second time for Indonesia to host the Asian Games. The first time acting as the host was in 1962 (4th Asian Games) under the administration of President Soekarno. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
