JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced former Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Budi Mulya to 10 years in prison after being proven guilty for committing corruption related tothe bailout of Bank Century.
In addition, panel of judges led by Afiantara also ordered Budi to pay Rp500 million in fine or serving 5 month additional jail time.
Panel of judges, in their conclusion, said Budi has been proven guilty for committing corruption altogether related to the approval and the disbursement of the Rp689.394 million short-term loan facility (FPJP) to Bank Century.
The judges also said Budi has been proven for receiving Rp1 billion bribe money from the bank owner Robert Tantular.
The verdict read on Wednesday’s (July 16) trial, however, is lighter than the demand from the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) prosecutors.
As reported earlier, the prosecutors demanded 17 years in prison for Budi and also the obligation to pay Rp800 million in fine or serving 8 month additional jail time.
Both KPK’s prosecutors and Budi Mulya said they will file an appeal against the verdict.
Other than that, the verdict might lead further investigation into other names. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
