JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Mayor of Palembang Romi Herton has been detained on Thursday (July 10) after being questioned for eight hours by investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) related to bribery scandal implicating former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar.
The KPK also detained and Romi’s wife, Masyitoh, for allegedly taking a role as a middle man in the bribery scheme.
As reported earlier, the KPK has named the couple as suspects since June 16. Romi, a PDI-P politician, through his wife allegedly bribed Akil Mochtar with a total Rp15 billion cash money to favor his lawsuit in Palembang election dispute in 2013.
Akil Mochtar, meanwhile, has been sentenced with a life time in prison. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
