JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) has summoned former Commander of the Indonesian Military (ABRI) and Minister of Defense Wiranto to give clarification over his earlier statements on the dismissal of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto from the military back in 1998.

Bawaslu Commissioner Nelson Simanjuntak said the Bawaslu is still waiting for Wiranto in Bawaslu’s office in Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Monday (June 23).

Bawaslu’s summon to Wiranto is a follow up to the report filed by the advocacy team of presidential and vice presidential candidates Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa.

Prabowo-Hatta’s advocacy team accused Wiranto for allegation of black campaign against Prabowo-Hatta pair.

Previously, Wiranto, in a press briefing broadcasted by a television station on June 19, confirmed the substance of the recommendation letter issued by the Military Officers Honorary Council (DKP) in 1998 that Prabowo was discharged from the army because he was found guilty of kidnapping the activists.

Wiranto, who is now Chairman of Hanura Party, added that Prabowo admitted that he was kidnapped the activists of his own initiative and his own situation analysis.

Commenting to Wiranto’s statements, Prabowo opted to silent and letting the public to judge him on the July 9, the voting day of the presidential election. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
