JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Golkar Party politician Tubagus Chaeri Wardana aka Wawan, suspect of bribery scandal, for 5 years in jail.

Wawan, brother of non-active Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah, gets lighter sentence than prosecutors’ demand of 10 years, for the bribery scandal related to the handling of Lebak regency post-election dispute which implicating former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar.

In a verdict trial held on Monday (Jun 23), panelof judges also ordered Rudi to pay Rp150 million in fine or to serve an additional three months in jail.

According to the presiding judge Matheus Samiadji, Wawan has proven guilty for bribing Akil Mochtar with Rp1 billion cash money to favor the ruling of the Constitutional Court to the pair of Amir Hamzah-Kasmin, the losing pair candidate in Lebak regency election.

Susi Tur Andayani, another suspect in the case, also got 5 years in jail in a trial today. Susi is also ordered by the panel of judges to pay Rp150 million in fine or to serve an additional three months in jail.

Akil, meanwhile, is facing a life time jail sentence. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
