JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The General Election Commission (KPU) is scheduled to today (May 14) announce 560 new lawmakers (House of Representatives/DPR) and 132 senators (Regional Representative Council/DPD) for the period of 2014-2019.
KPU Commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiansyah confirmed and noted members of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), lawmaker candidates, and representatives from 12 political parties contested in the legislative election will attend in the time of announcement.
As reported earlier, the KPU has announced the results of April 9 legislative election. According to KPU, 10 out of 12 political parties contested in the legislative election passed the 3.5 percent parliamentary threshold, a minimum requirement to have seats at the parliament.
The KPU also declared PDI-P as the winner of the election with securing 109 out of 560 available parliament seats. Trailing behind were Golkar with 91 seats, Gerindra (73 seats), Democratic Party (61 seats), Pan (49 seats), PKB (47 seats), PKS (40 seats), PPP (39 seats), Nasdem (35 seats), and Hanura (16 seats).
In a related progress, about 15 political parties, including 3 local Aceh parties, have filed their lawsuits to the Constitutional Court to challenge the results of legislative election. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
