JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Two prominent retired Army generals, Prabowo Subianto and Wiranto, have reportedly met in a meeting, for building a coalition ahead of the July’s presidential election.
The meeting might also end years of bitter rivalry between Prabowo and Wiranto.
Fadli Zon, Deputy Chairman of Gerindra, confirmed the meeting between Prabowo and Wiranto to Tempo.co.
According to Fadli, the figures also attended the meeting were also Fuad Bawazier (one of key leaders of Hanura), Suhardi (Chairman of Gerindra), Adhyaksa Dault (former PKS politician and former Minister of Youth & Sports), and businesswomen Moeryati Soedibyo.
Fadli, however, said that Prabowo and Wiranto have not finalized the deal yet.
On the other side, Saleh Husin and Yuddy Chrisnandi, two executives of Hanura, also confirmed the meeting.
Saleh said that Hanura will take a decision this weekend about the coalition with Gerindra.
Previously, Saleh said Hanura will only want to enter a coalition with political party that has presidential nominee with biggest chance of winning the election.
As reported earlier, Prabowo’s presidential bid is still uncertainty after the National Development Party (PPP) annulled its support.
Prabowo is now seeking for additional supports from other political parties to endorse his nomination. Besides Hanura, Prabowo also is in talks with PKS and PAN. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
