JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Fire engulfed and burned down thousands of kiosks in Blok III of Pasar Senen market, Central Jakarta on Friday (April 25). The fire took place at around 4:00 am of Jakarta time.

Jakarta City-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya President Director Djangga Lubis told the press that at least two-thirds of 3,096 kiosks were burnt down in Pasar Senen market.

No casualties are reported from the incident. About 43 fire trucks have been deployed to  the location.

Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo visited the location since around 9:15 am and directly monitored and coordinated the firefighters to extinguish the fire.

Jokowi said the city government will soon build an emergency market on Sunday (April 27) and rebuild Pasar Senen market which served the people since 1974. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
