JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported cellular phones import in February 2014 reached US$220.7 million, equivalent Rp2.3 trillion, with volume of 982 tons.

In January 2014, cellular phones import reached US$303.6 million, equivalent Rp3.1 trillion, with volume of 1,321 tons.

The government of Indonesia has early this year increased income tax of import of goods, including cellular phones, to 7.5% from previous 2.5%.

In 2013, total import of cellular phones reached 16,470 tons or US$2.7 billion. The largest suppliers are China, Hongkong, Taiwan, Vietnam, and South Korea.

While the industry ministry mulls to impose 20% tax for selling luxurious goods such as all products of cellular phones, tablet and hand-held computer.
