JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The disgraced former Chief of the Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar finally admitted to the Court on Thursday (Jan. 30) that he had asked for Rp3 billion in bribes when handling the post-election dispute of Gunung Mas regency, Central Kalimantan.

Today, Akil presented in the trial of bribery case of the handling of Gunung Mas post-election dispute held at the Jakarta Corruption Court. Akil, also suspect in the case, made his testimonies as witness for three other suspects; Chairun Nisa (Golkar Party lawmaker), Hambit Bintih (Gunung Mas Regent), and Cornelis Nalau (a businessman).

Akil answered prosecutor’s question about “three tons of gold” as read on SMS messages between Akil and Chairun Nisa. Akil admitted he asked Rp3 billion (in dollar denomination) to Chairun Nisa in bid to win Hambit Bintih on the dispute. Akil also admitted that Nisa also asked a portion of that fee.

Akil has been named as suspect by two cases. First, he is suspect for graft case in handling of post-election disputes in Lebak regency (Banten) and Gunung Mas regency (Central Kalimantan). Second, he is suspect for money laundering act.
