JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The flood hits Jakarta today (Jan 13), when the administration of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as governor of DKI Jakarta province enters its 455-day.

Jokowi claimed that the flood is not only the responsibility of regional government of DKI Jakarta, but also a concern or responsibility of the central government of Indonesia.

He said as the new governor, his administration had taken some efforts in overcoming the flood in the city such as river and reservoir or dam dredging. The dredging takes time, while the flood issue in Jakarta had emerged since 30 years ago.

Jokowi noted some 13 big rivers are under the management or responsibility of the central government of Indonesia. While DKI government manages small rivers which total 885.

The flood in Jakarta city is caused by the heavy rain and also flood derived from upstream of rivers in Bogor, West Java.

The flood also impacted on the traffic congestion in the city, and it hits some areas of toll roads. Motorcycle riders are also allowed to pass the toll road. Some schools are closed, many workers did not come to work/office. Thousands people are evacuated to other location.

The food relief and shelter are needed. While state utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) have also extinguished around 136 electricity sub-stations in Jakarta city.
