JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – China-based aluminum producer Shandong Nanshan Aluminum Co Ltd plans to build bauxite smelter in Bintan island in April this year.

The company will process bauxite into aluminum. It had proposed to get tax allowance from the government of Indonesia for this project.

Shandong will invest US$5 billion on the project, including building infrastucture such as port, road access, and power plant. The construction of smelter will take 2 years.

Shandon and another 4 companies from China have obtained licenses from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) for building smelter in Indonesia.
