JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Lawmakers at the House of Representatives (DPR) have revived the discourse of possible impeachment on Vice President Boediono following recent investigation conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) related to the Rp6.7 trillion Bank Century (now Bank Mutiara) bailout scandal.
As reported earlier, KPK has re-examined Boediono in his office in Jakarta on Saturday (Nov. 23). Boediono was re-examined in his capacity as former Governor of Bank Indonesia and former member of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK). This is the second examination for Boediono after being questioned on Apr. 29, 2010.
Commenting to the recent KPK’s investigation on Boediono, lawmakers from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and Hanura Party said they are now waiting the Anti-Graft Commission to name Boediono as suspect in the Bank Century scandal.
“Now KPK is on the right way. It might has already found Boediono’s involvement (in the Bank Century case). While the DPR had made a conclusion that Pak Boediono is proven guilty in this case referred to our own investigation,” said Fachri Hamzah, PKS lawmaker, Monday (Nov. 25).
“If KPK named Pak Boediono (as suspect in the Bank Century case), it will be a tool for the DPR to launch the impeachment, of course after we used the DPR`s rights to express an opinion,” Fahri added.
Syarifuddin Sudding, lawmaker from Hanura Party, also questioned about the slow progress from KPK’s investigation as the case has emerged 5 years ago.
The recent effort of lawmakers to impeach Boediono through the Bank Century bailout scandal would be the fourth attempt after 2010, 2011, and 2012. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
