JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – An Army helicopter crashed at Malinau Regency, northeast of Kalimantan Saturday. Thirteen passengers are declared dead, while six others survived.
Kompas.com quoted Colonel Inf Yamin Danao, commander of Malinau Military District, saying five soldiers and eight civilians died in the crash. Six other passengers survived, consisted of two soldiers and six civilians.
The chopper was transporting materials for the construction of the border guard post in Apoping Village, Malinau, nearby the border of Indonesia and Malaysia.
Indonesian Military’s head of information center Iskandar Sitompul said military is investigating the crash. Military suspects of machinery issues causing the chopper losing power and then crashed.
