JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Hamdan Zoelva, former politician from the Crescent Star Party (PBB), was elected Friday (Nov. 1) as new Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) replacing Akil Mochtar, the dismissed Chief Justice and graft suspect.
Hamdan will lead the country’s highest judiciary court until 2016.
Born in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara on June 26, 1962, Hamdan has served as Judge of the Constitutional Court since 2010. He was nominated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Graduated from the Law School of Hasanuddin Uinversity in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Hamdan previously served as lawmaker at the House of Representatives (DPR) from PBB, a party led by former Law Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra.
