JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Amidst harsh criticisms from members of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III overseeing Law and Human Rights, President SBY’s Democratic Party lawmaker Ruhut Sitompul decided to resign from nomination to be Chairman of the Commission III.

Ruhut has declared his resignation from the nomination in the meeting of the House Commission III on Monday (October 7) noon, which previously claimed to be his inauguration moment.

“Allow me to resign from the chairmanship and I will be still member of the House Commission III. I hope we could still co-operate,” said Ruhut while wiping his tears and praised with a round of applause from other lawmakers.

Actually, the Democratic Party led by President SBY had appointed Ruhut Sitompul as new Chairman of the House Commission III since September 18, 2013, to replace his party’s colleague Gede Pasek Suardika.

But Ruhut’s inauguration scheduled on September 25 was canceled due to rejection expressed by members of the House Commission III. They rejected Ruhut’s nomination because of Ruhut’s controversial cases and capacity.

Following Ruhut’s resignation, Democratic Party has just nominated Pieter C Zulkifli Simabuea to lead the House Commission III. Pieter is currently a member of the House Commission II overseeing election, regional autonomy and domestic governance. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
