JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) will handover its rights of operatorship for some areas of coal bed methane (CBM) to its existing partner Sugico, Bisnis Indonesia reported this morning.
Wahidin Nuruliza, PHE’s corporate secretary, said the handover of rights to Sugico needs approval from PT Pertamina as shareholder and the government of Indonesia, represented by upstream oil and gas regulatory body (SKK Migas).
Currently PHE has 14 working areas for CBM, of which 9 areas are managed by PHE itself; Muara Enim (1 & 2), Air Benakat (1 & 2), Suban (1 & 2), Tanjung Enim (2 & 4).
CBM is considered as a non conventional gas, then it might need a special treatment from the regulator or government. As of now, no rigs are available to drill CBM well which by natural only produces 0.25 mmscfd for one well. The land clearance for CBM are is also the issue which hinders the CBM development.
PHE has total CBM reserves of 41.67 trillion cubic feets from the existing CBM wells.
