SURABAYA (Yosefardi) – Incumbent East Java governor Soekarwo has formally been declared winner of the election to secure a second term.
Final official counting by East Java Election Commission (KPUD) shows Soekarwo won 47.25% votes, followed by Khofifah Indar Parawansa with 37.62%, Bambang DH 12.69%, and Eggi Sudjana 2.44%.
Soekarwo entered the race with support from various political parties including President SBY’s Democratic Party, Golkar Party, and National Mandate Party (PAN). Soekarwo is also chairman of East Java chapter of Democratic Party.
Khofifah, who also lost 2008 election to Soekarwo, meanwhile, entered the race with support from National Awakening Party (PKB). Bambang DH is supported by PDi-P, while Eggi is an independent candidate.
Only 60 percent eligible voters or 17.89 million participate in the election held late last week.
