JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Death toll of landslide incident that buried workers on mining underground tunnel of gold miners PT Freeport Indonesia has reportedly increased to 13.

I Gede Sumerta Jaya, Papua Police Spokesman, revealed that the evacuation team has just evacuated the 23rd victims in the accident site. Until this morning, I Gede added, the total casualties have reached 13 while there are 13 injured workers, detik.com reported.

The landslide, which occurred on May, 14, 2014, has reportedly buried 38 people under the rubble in PT Freeport Indonesia mining underground tunnel. Richard Adkerson, CEO of PT Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold Inc, has flew to Papua to visit the accident location, Sunday.

Deputy Speaker of The House Priyo Budi Santoso demanded the giant mining company to prepare compensation for the victims’ families. Priyo also revealed Freeport management has informed that various compensations have been prepared from Rp600 million up to Rp1.7 billion per victim.

Simon Morin, VP of PT Freeport Indonesia, explained that while preparing compensation for the victims, Freeport will also open the opportunity for the victims’ families to work in the company as appreciation for the victims.

Related to the incident, President SBY has given instruction to open investigation on the landslide in Freeport through his twitter account.
