JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The National Police’s headquarters revealed on Tuesday (Sep. 28) that the police has named 9 companies and 195 people as suspects behind forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Kompas.com reported.
According to the spokesperson of the National Police’s headquarters Sr. Comr. Suharsono, the police opens the possibility to name more suspects in near future.
Suharsono said all of 204 suspects named by police were allegedly involved in 218 separate forest fires cases. 4 out of those 218 cases are now handled by the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Division (Bareskrim POLRI). While each of regional police offices of South Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan handle 34, 68, 18, 57, 25, 8, and 4 other cases respectively.
As reported earlier, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has repeatedly ordered the law enforcement institutions and all related ministries to take firm action over companies and people alleged behind forest fires, including to revoke the licenses of those companies. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
