JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released that 229 Indonesians are facing the death penalty abroad as at February 2015.
The Foreign Ministry’s Directorate General for Protection & Legal Aid on Indonesian Citizens Abroad, in its press release, revealed in details that 168 out of 229 Indonesians are facing death penalty in Malaysia.
While 38 and 15 others are facing death penalty in Saudi Arabia and China respectively. About 9 other Indonesians, meanwhile, are facing death penalty in Singapore, Laos, Vietnam, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The release, moreover, revealed that 131 out of 229 Indonesians are facing death penalty for drug cases. while 77 others are facing death penalty for murder cases.
In the meantime, in Indonesia, the Indonesian government is currently looking to execute 60 death-row convicts, including those convicted in drugtrafficking case.
Last month, six convicted drug dealers were executed by firing squads in Indonesia. The six were Indonesian citizen, Dutch citizen, Brazilian citizen Marco, Malawi citizen, Nigerian citizen, and Vietnamese citizen. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
