JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – More than 100 million Indonesians will vote in the Country’s first ever simultaneous regional elections in 264 regions throughout the archipelago this morning (Dec. 9).
According to the data earlier released by the General Election Commission (KPU), a total 100,186,754 voters from 32 provinces have been registered in the final voter list (DPT), comprising of 50,160,885 male voters and 50,025,491 female voters.
The voters will give their votes at 246,243 polling stations (TPS) distributed in 32 provinces in order to elect their new regional leaders in their own region.
At the time of writing, the voters have started to give their votes in regional elections held simultaneously in 264 regions comprises of 8 provinces, 34 municipalities, and 222 regencies around the country.
Initially, the Country’s first ever simultaneous regional elections will be held in 269 regions. But the KPU has been forced to delay the implementation of regional elections in five regions due to, among others, recent verdicts from the High State Administrative Court (PTTUN).
Those five regions are Central Kalimantan province, Fakfak regency (West Papua), Manado city (North Sulawesi), Pematangsiantar city (North Sumatra), and Simalungun regency (North Sumatra). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
